If you ask that question it means you don't understand new media. There is no need for new media to take over or replace the traditional media. New media is and will basically transform the existing media.

Take the case of TV- the modern TVs coming out in the market are more of a mix between computers and TVs -connect them to the Internet and they become powerful indeed.

In the same way other media such as OOH is being changed by the addition of the power of digital.

Furthering Tyrone’s comment, what is traditional media? Newspapers? Public announcements in town squares on a podium? Writing on papyrus paper? Engraved tablets? Caveman drawings?

The “alarm” of the changes coming up is understandable from a lifetime perspective, but mediums of communication and disseminating information has been evolving constantly. Even things we take for granted, like shop signs, were a breakthrough in advertising at some point.

It’s so exciting though! For the first time we can track how really truly effective or affecting our messages are and who has noticed them. The big data derived from new media can help us better serve the most appropriate people. (For short: New media enables inbound marketing which makes a more pleasant lifestyle for people who don’t care about you :P)

If all people afford internet and advanced devices such as laptops and smart phones, it could have a great impact upon the news papers. Anyways, in my opinion, social media will give a new refreshing taste to recieving a paper letter from the people you care about.
