1000 words and above does well with SEO. But readers hardly scan through it all. In my own opinion, keywords matter.
Typically, 250-500 words maximum even though some blogs I follow have posts ranging from 500-1000 words; recommended for technical writing. So your ideal length depends on your subject matter; I would recommend 500 words as a casual reader.
