Be clear while setting performance and behavioural expectations

Be transparent & fair while dealing with staff

Regular updates should be taken from staff and give inputs/support/tools/knowledge to him to remove any hindrance coming his way.

Do brainstorming sessions on a topic given to them for study.

Have a frustration/complaint box (not suggestion box) and have a session decided when common or serious problem is there with your staff and solve it accordingly.

Job enrichment, trust & empowerment will be good practice

delegate tasks to staff & appreciate them on every single achievement

Adopt SMART Goal strategy.

Keep a weekly/fortnightly lunch with staff together, where no work talks to be made.

do an outing once every two months

support your staff when they are facing unwanted situations by counselling, reducing burden sharing his activities with others for time being

personal note of thanks when target or goal achieved

appreciate your staff in meetings with reasons  - I want to appreciate and thank MR. ____ for.... Thanks MR. ___

You need to motivate them with some form of rewards. Moreover, suggestions have to be taken seriously so that employees are willing to come up with more creative ways of improving the workplace.
