Specific, measurable, attainable, reachable, and timely are qualities of the goal that can help anyone to serve as a powerful technique to motivate workers or colleagues in every company. Goal without these qualities would be a sole speculation and can't help for further growth of the company.

I would ad to Mr. Balolot's answer these qualities of goals: 

  1. Goals must be accepted
  2. Feedback must be provided on goal attainment 
  3. Goals are more effective when they are used to evaluate performance
