I used to have a good relationship with my manager but it's starting to change and i prefer to interact with his boss who is happy with my work, value my job, give me good feedback, follow up on task and all. Did you had a similar situation? How do you do to stay fair with your manager or show him you are not really happy with his management or interacting with his boss without him thinking you are undermining his role?
Remember the ethics and Hierarchy. dont by pass your immediate manager. simply work like normal. don't exploit any one if your terms with big boss are better than them.
Even though we have good relation with our manager's boss , we should not try to over look our manager at any circumstance. since our manager is the ultimate authority for our career in our organization. Also it is not a morality
do your work, be honest and determined, try to understand management needs and fill your space effectively.
The moment you claim you are on better terms with your boss's boss than your actual boss, you are completely out of line and showing disloyalty and disrespect.
The manager should keep good relation with all the staff as well as good communication. Conflicts should be settled and this is a duty of the manger.
Your situation bringing a negative impact to your manager a feeling of bypassing his role which trigger him to do something bad against you. Even you tell him your side and reasons still the doubts will remains in his mind and jealous of his heart. He concretely felt that you left him behind which he assume that you grab the opportunity to be with his boss and the doubts that you whisper negative feedback to his boss regarding his weakness on his job. Both of you and his boss don't know the protocol of positioning, professionalism, and flow of command. Definitely it will destroy the credibility, performance, relationship, as well us the trust. And its not good in business operation. It will create commotion and sour atmosphere in the working place. There is simile term on it " BALIMBING". And personally this situation can't be appreciable to anybody, and I discourage it to any employees to do the same.
Hello all, thank you for your answers. Rogelio, your answers is very deep but you have to read what i said. I'm not in a fight with my direct manager or in a negative state of mind but i just said that our relationship is changing. I have a better relationship with his boss than with him. But it doesn't mean that i dont respect the chain of command, go above him, dont interact with him it is not my style at all. I just wish that he had more the behaviour of his boss. Thank you
React to whom....To your Boss,,,,
Having good Skip Level relationship is not a bad thing and in fact some times act as a deterrent to your immediate Manager if he acts in a biased manner with you. But in any case priority should be given to your immediate Manager who normally works very closely with you. One should avoid overdoing relationship with Skip Level Managers but as I said it, at times it put a leash on an unsuitable immediate Manager who does not treat his team members equally and justifiably. While doing so you should be able to manage your behavior to avoid the Leash Aggression of your immediate Manager which would be a normal response in this kind of situation.
