Is there a link between organizational change and emotional intelligence? If there is a link, is it a direct or an indirect one?

I am trying to gauge to what degree do professionals connect the emotional intelligence components to the direct or indirect success of organizational change initiatives. We know that organizational change is dependent upon many factors; some of which are soft issues related to people's attitudes and personalities, etc.

Hello Mr.Yousef,

I beleive there is an indirect connection between organisational change and emotional intelligence because the cause for the change in organisational development and stagnation is the people involved in it. When a person is motivated to imrovise and develop his work in the organisation he'll work to his maximum potential, on the other hand if the person is satisfied with his job and all he wants is to hold on tight to his chair, this person might work to a stable level which may not showcase much creativity or new ideas for the business development.

I think instead of making an employee to work he should be made to think that he is working for his own development and that development comes through the development of the organisation.

Thank You

Emotional intelligence can best be described as the ability to monitor one's own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior.

Organizations change because of issues related to survival and profitability.Top level executives may closely relate to the organization's survival and profitability. But the question is, does this sentiment run through the length and breadth of the organization?

EI of the employees is something which needs to be developed initially and tapped at the opportune time. EI is an important part of people's attitudes and personalities but it may not be everything. If the employees have the attitude to change it will positively contribute towards the organizational change.

If the EI of the employees is not properly developed, it is in all likelihood going to affect the organization's change adversely.Hence, my humble submission is that org change and EI are indirectly related.
