Pot bearings are preferred over elastomeric bearings in situations where there are chances of high vertical loads in combinations of very large angle of rotations. Elastomeric bearings always require a large bearing surface so that a compression is maintained between the contact surfaces in between the piers and the bearings. This is not possible to maintained in high load and rotation environment. Also the usage of elastomeric bearings leads to the uneven distribution of stress on the piers.
In the event of high vertical loads combined with large angle of rotations, because elastomeric bearings require large bearing surfaces. Moreover, it also leads to uneven distribution of stress on the piers and some of these highly induced stresses may damage the piers

I thing this is repeated quesion, although
I agree with answer mr.hisham, but i can adding if there is some special chemical material tt's prefered to use iron bearing like oils, methanol, or any solvent for elastomeric materials.
In the event of high vertical loads combined with large angle of rotations, rubber bearings are undesirable when compared with pot bearings. For instance, elastomeric bearings require large bearing surfaces so that compression can be maintained between the contact surfaces between the bearings and piers. Moreover, it also leads to uneven distribution of stress on the piers and some of these highly induced stresses may damage the piers. Consequently, pot bearings are better alternatives than elastomeric bearings

If there is heavy duty work ( high speed, high torsion),or high temperature they prefered used iron bearing.
