While a periodic change in the safety stock levels is not necessary, an eagle's eye on any change in consumption patterns is a must, which might snowball into serious inventory management issues !!!!

It is not necessary to recalculate the safety stock level on a regular basis, The inventory level is based on the products or materials consumption data which covers both peak & off peak season. The future level of inventory can be calculated on past product consumption data or market sales data. But it is very important to maintain the data accuracy properly. Besides that it is also need to make habit to go through the formats on periodical basis.

The basis of min max inventory level should be computed from the average consumption of peak and low season data. It's not necessary to compute the safety stock on a regular basis since your basis is already the average quantities. If you are maintaining seasonal inventories the basis of calculation should be most recent data.
