The role of the MIS in an organization can be compared to the role of heart in the body. The information is the blood and MIS is the heart. In the body the heart plays the role of supplying pure blood to all the elements of the body including the brain. The heart work faster and supplies more blood when needed. It regulates and controls the incoming impure blood, processed it and sends it to the destination in the quantity needed. It fulfills the needs of blood supply to human body in normal course and also in crisis.

The MIS plays exactly the same role in the organization. The system ensures that an appropriate data is collected from the various sources, processed and send further to all the needy destinations. The system is expected to fulfill the information needs of an individual, a group of individuals, the management functionaries: the managers and top management.

Information system (in other ERP) is an critical tool for management these days, there are a lot of software or ERPs for helping companies as per their customized need. It helps to ensure control over cash flow, production process, supply chain and product development. Some companies also use for customer care and HR development. It all not only improve company performance but also give an edge against their competition too.

It is because of information system that one can do better SWOT analysis about an organization. once the data is stored in the system it can be shown , correlate and compare in any way the user wants. It was not that much easier before the computers based systems because the information in conventional system were present but in scattered books so it was not that easy as it is today , so the decisions were not that much easier as it is today and the right decision at the right time in the right direction can make or break the business.

The Organization  without a proper information system is like a body without a soul or a Person without a life jacket in the middle of an ocean.
