Absolutely fair that the management obtains comparative quotes from suppliers for benchmarking and establishing accurate price ranges. It would obviously depend on the right scoping, Partner categorization, TCO of the same set of requirements.
At times, Managements use this practice as a strategy for dissuading cartelization besides keeping both the supplier base and the procurement team on toes. However, eventually in the long run it would be a reflection on the ability, mutual confidence of the procurement team in bringing value in each transaction.
