Yes, It is a Good question, Usually as a new Employee supposed to meet my Departmental Head & He may introduce to my surrounding team. Of course it is an happiest moment. Then I go back to my assigned

job responsibility & review all previous files /correspondence related to my Job description.

Thanks for inviting me Sir. Before I do any of the items in your list - I pray to the Almighty for success and call my parents to take their blessings!

After that, I would go to the reception - say Hello and introduce myself as the new joiner in X Department. Then, I would ask for the quoted Contact Person from HR to come get me and do the rest. :-)

Peace be upon you,

Some rules of thumbs of 1st day at work, after almost a decade working in the petrochemical industry, working in 3 different MNCs and being a Team Leader of a 11 man shift team:

1) Never be late. I mean never. It is ok to be early and wait at the reception/front desk/lounge. But do not ever be late. It will leave a bad first impression of yourself, towards your colleagues and bosses.

2) Be well groomed. Dress for the job that you are now hired to do. You cannot be "over-dressed" but you can definitely be under-dressed and there is nothing more embarrassing and uncomfortable than being under-dressed on your 1st day at work. Groom your facial hair (to the gents) or wear appropriate amount of make-up (ladies), look neat and presentable as you might not know who you will meet on the 1st day at work. Oh, smelling good will not hurt anyone too, for that matter. The last thing any of your new colleagues would want is to get introduced to your body odor in the elevator/pantry.

3) Get the contact person that you have to look for on the 1st day. Nothing is more assuring than knowing the person(s) that you have to look for at the workplace, especially when it is an MNC and there will be hundreds of people at the office. Get a contact number so that you can easily contact that person(s), if needed.

4) Smile and always be the one to introduce yourself first. A smile is always nice to see, and always introduce yourself first to break any "walls" that most people will have when meeting someone for the 1st time.

5) Be humble and listen. Do NOT be a Mr. "Know-It-All", even if you are a subject matter expert (SME) at that particular role. Besides, listening to others may even allow you to be a better person/leader as they are more receptive to talk to you.

6) Ask when unsure. It is ok to ask when you have doubts/questions. Keep quiet will only tell your colleagues that you know what you are doing/who to look for/where to go etc. Remember, smile while asking and listen to what is being said.

7) Be a good colleague and greet the people that you will be sitting around/working with. It is all about the start. Start well and you will be on your way to a great working relationship, in shaa Allah.

Hope this helps.

Step 1: Be well dress

Step 2: Be on time

Step 3: Greet front desk with a smile and ask for specified contact person.

Step 4:  Don't worry, Rest HR department will take care from formalities, introduction, office area tour, your work desk, reporting to your Manager..... etc etc

All of the above. You should know your workplace (desk), then introduction and orientation is important and then meeting with your immediate manager is also important. you should see the culture of your office too.
