Explain the importance of strategic management approach?

Without the answer to the basic question " Where we stand, and where we need to go?" the direction to which the company's operations shall pursue cannot be determined. and the objectives for success can not be set in a manner that assures the company's best interest. here comes the importance of strategic management as it obligates managers /executives to answer this question then plan their activities accordingly.
