Hello Thuraya Al- Qasim,

If the products that you are purchasing for one time requirement then there are less chances that suppliers will provide you with samples, however it also depends on category that you are procuring.

Foe example : if you are into cosmetic products manufacturing, you will have a recurring requirement of Raw materials that you will be procuring to manufacture your products, Hence the suppliers will readily provide you with the samples. And cosmetics products being used widely will have intense testing procedures before procuring and post which buying decisions will be made if the products passes all tests.

however say if you are planning to procure a laptop which is a total different commodity or product the supplier may not provide you with the sample for testing as it is a very standard product.

Hope this clarifies your question.

regards,

Junaid Sayed.

Always

‘Sampling’ is a key part of selling between the buyer and the supplier. Especially for designed items that are likely to be bought on a repeat basis. Imagine, if a single specification becomes unacceptable or you buy a product but its patent/ design rights expire and the supplier will say: you asked me to supply this and I have done so? If they are not obliged to provide alternatives they may be entirely justified contractually in not doing so, i.e. they have not done anything wrong technically. But you now have to manage in short time the potential problem of supply interruption inconvenience, delays.

If a buying department is effective it will not look at this as a transaction, but manage the risk at the sampling stage before the buying and ordering starts.

That really depends on what you are buying. However, whatever you might be buying can be specified in detail in specification of goods / services, including the aspects of quality,

Thank you for the invitation

I agree with Junaid Sayed Mohammad Badi Al Hefawi.

It is all depend on the industry type and items being purchased.
