To make other people understand and obey you, some things need to be in place:

• You need to understand the position or standing of your subordinate or superior on the subject matter
• You need to be shown adequate confidence
• You need to constantly communicate to them in a manner that they understand that you have considered their opinion 
• You need to make people see reason in what and why they are listening to you
• Trust is key

Give respect to others and they will follow you as you desire.
