Why management believe in telling lies rather than to face the truth with facts and figures?

I do believe that , because they are a non professional bad management.

because there are a nonprofessional staff

Its sometimes not a lie. Its manipulation of truth only. They do that to avoid leakage of business information to competitors, or to avoid employees to be demotivated due to failure of some project etc. But actually they face pressure, truth and consequences without dragging down the effect to lower management or workers.
