As per Data Center Audits performed many organizations employ IT Graduates who have no idea Developing, operating, guiding and maintaining a data centre which is compliant to relevant standards/codes that meets the business needs. And the Certified MICROSOFT |CISCO | SAP | ORACLE | VMWARE expert's being masters in their areas have no idea about DC Racks , Cooling, Electrical, Flooring , UPS, HVAC, Fire/Detection Systems,Electro Magnetic Fields, DC Lighting, etc. which results in tremendous Risk, Cost,Energy ,Component failure,Carbon footprint,Space-Capacity,etc losses to most organizations world wide.
The bottom line is that a properly managed Data Center always results in Efficiency having huge impacts on Lowering Costs, Risks Profile and Environmental Impacts.
it is very interesting
Inhouse experience always can play better role than direct vendor involvement in day 2 day tasks and data center management.
But for complex and new technology projects getting assistance from vendors like Microsoft/Cisco/Other expert is needed to make sure of smooth and risk free implementation.
As an ex datacenter manager, I can safely say that the person needs to have a good understanding of civil, mechnical, electrical and instrumentation engineering principles. Microsoft / Oracle, etc do not show you those, as they are more I.T infrastructure related. However, it is very possible to have someone with 20 years of experience who understands datacenter management as well as IT layer.
UP TIME TIER III Certified Buildings
the experts are more loyal and good investment so definitely the expert
Certainly Data center should be managed by Certified Data center professionals, the other area specialist like vmware/ oracle and etc will have knowledge of thier own product not about data center, since data center involves many things like power, cooling, security, DR & Many which cannot be analysed or maintained by Application certified experts like vmware, sap, oracle
