As an executive secretary/assistant, would sharing my personal life with a difficult boss help, or will he/she just take advantage of me?

I always maintained a professional distance with my boss.I am only friendly and caring to my patients but not to my boss.My boss is a very brilliant man, strict and perfectionist. He always told me of Professional distance. So I have to do my best inorder to meet his expectations.Sharing personal problems will not help.Just show to him that you are competent on your job.I respect my boss, but I argue when I know I am right. I never show to him that I am weak.

to keep yourself professional you should keep away from doing this.

My advice is that you do not share any of your personal life experiences with your supervisor. Your supervisor is not your friend. Keep things professional. If things are shaky between the two of you already, sharing personal information will give him/her access to information that wasn't on a need-to-know basis and could be used as leverage against you.

You can do that only when you when build a very reliable relationship and know that you can trust him/her.
