CPM is the best and i used it, CPM are commonly used tool for detailed project management planning,enabling,scheduling,costing and budgeting and other financials.Gantt charts is also commonly used for communications and progress reports.

this depends on the complexity of the project involve then you can use GERT which of course PERT/CPM cannot address of. all of these tools, if the user is familiar of, is very useful in planning the project in terms of determining the shortest time to complete the project, youre right - the crtical path, float etc.. let us not define each one of them, as we assumed that we already learned earlier the benefits, in and outs of these tools.
