this is mainly related to two main reason:
1. if the boss's approach is laissez faire, which is a type of leadership where the boss leaves everything totally in terms of trust to the team with no directions, or with directions without follow up on it.
2. there is a huge gap between what the corporate strategic direction down to the middle management which cause inconsistency of applying those strategies reflected on the manager's behavior, attitude, management style, and realistic implementation for efficient operational tactics that will allow you achieving the strategic goals.
What i recommend in both situations is to sit with the boss with one question in mind to be answered which is: what is your expectations and direction in order to achieve the departmental goals?
We will together to find our way out of this island, come up with a plan to survive together first. Work as a team.
I will provide security for my boss and will make sure that I do everything to get out of that dire situation of an Island. Again, I will keep on respecting my boss and provide him with all his demands.

Be confident and focused. Support each others decision for the benefit of the organisation.
The answer to this question depends on the chances of survival for me, him/her, both together.
First i would try to make sure myself and my boss is calm then we would work together as a team, we would try to find if there is any other survivors ,then try our best to find away to get out of the place.

Firstly, I would sell my boss on the idea of setting up a remote office on the remote island. Making lemonade out of lemons can be fun if everyone can work as a team in a positive manner.
Secondly, I would either get used to the fact that the island is the new home of the company or expect a rescue soon.
Thirdly- possibly invite passerby persons to join the festivities of a successful remote island company and maybe promote expansion of the new island of business and pleasure.
Finally, decide on whether to return to mainland or continue to expand on the remote island with boss.
First of all we have to work together in order to survive , our survival will depend on the team work . as a military guy I may have a better experience than he has in similar situations , So I am gonna do the following :
1 - First of all he is the boss, so he likes to feel that he is in charge and he knows everything. so before taking any decision we will make a discussion and come up with the best solution and I will make sure that he will get the feeling that it is his idea and I am just following orders as usual although it might be my idea .
2 - I will do situation analysis , our location , tools or equipment that we have including communications and supplies .
3- If we can send a signal it will be great otherwise I will try to detect a direction and carry as much supplies as we can , then moving until we hit inhabited area or we find a way to contact someone to send us a rescue team .
