It depends on the contractual term, if you are an employer then you may be having some standard written commitment towards the organization and the employees and it's your responsibility to take a leave in whatever way you want with respect to your commitments.
Of course it is more than important. As an HR professional, I look to make the balance between work-life commitments. Second, many researches shows that spending time working without any break or vacation influence negatively the physical and mental health of the employees.
