The Humming Bird update of Google Search and Ranking algorithms is mainly geared towards regional SEO efforts. It especially looks at how you have achieved rankings in SERPs for regional searches. If it has been through black or grey hat practices such as keyword stuffing, adding the regions with hyphenated domain names such as San-Francisco-Dry-Cleaners.com or have used other content that is not visible to the users such as Meta or other hidden content fields to stuff regional keywords. In additional it also looks for thin content that although seems unique but uses the regional keywords in higher saturation while leaving the content's value to the user very thin. All these practices are targeted and penalized by Hummingbird algorithm update.
