It totally depends on which OS is running on the computer. However if the OS is Windows 7 then one does not need to reinstall OS while upgrading RAM.

IN THAT CASES ONLY 2GB RAM OLY REQUIRD BECAUSE THEY SYSTEM WILL BE RE INSTALL ITS TO BE SIMILAR TO REBOOT.

In Windows Environment if one is willing to upgrade RAM and wants to utilize 100% of the RAM then it is required to upgrade system to 64bit. However, in other cases in is not necessary to reinstall the windows.

If the new ammount of RAM is more than 3 GB and installed Windows is 32 bit than the best solution is to install 64 bit version of Windows
