The problem I have with this question is that the so-called 'unprofessionalism" of the team is based on my personal feelings, which could be subjective and unrealistic, not on any realistic yardsticks.

However, if I could establish, with realistic yardsticks, that my team is unprofessional, I will challenge them with varying tasks and call for professional training.

There was a saying that was changed for Forest Gumps, Handsome is as Handsome does. This was changed to Stupid is as Stupid does, sometimes its best to vote with your feet and find another job. In an unprofessional organisation where people have self serving interests, the power of communication and control, they hold all the cards and nothing you are going to do or say is going to change that, move on.

I will try to change the situation, if I can not, I will look for an alternative opportunity.

There are many facets to the question:

  • If I am the team leader I'll carve out a professional team out of the available resources. Firing someone, if at all, would be way down on my priorities. It works because mostly people tend to follow their managers.
  • If I am team member, as a rule, I believe that it is not possible for a large number of incompetent persons to come together at one place. So
    • Either the manager is Ok but some key members of the staff are not suitable for the team and the manager's effort to this affect are not fruitful. In this case I'll try to provide my suggestions, if welcome, to the manager based on the situation.
    • Or the team leader is incompetent and that is having an effect on the team. In this case I'd give it a try to play my part in improving the situation in collaboration with other members of the team. However, if I can't make any difference in six months or so, I'd leave.

Its a critical situation yet I will do my best to change the situation and convince the team that we should be working for the better.  I will keep on trying and at the end start looking for another position if it is useless.  I will not be the one to save the planet.

Firstly, you have to check if you are the only one who's suffering.

If the answer is YES . I'M THE ONLY ONE, so it's not the team's fault, it's yours.

If the answer is NO, WE ARE ALL SUFFERING, so there is a lake of communication between the team and the manager, and could be the manager fault.

in this case you all the team should try to adjust from the manager work attitude, if didn't response, then go for a complain.
