ALL THE ABOVE FACTORS ARE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHILE TESTING FUEL ECONOMY.
You cant give a simple answer to it and it depends from car to car. I think both of them are doing a good job.
But if you ask about durability, I think japanese will still take the lead as they have been in the market a lot longer than korean companies have.

When referred to fuel efficient East is efficient and not the West. Japanese and Korean belong to East and aimed at Fuel Efficient and therefore light weight based.
