Quenching is a heat treatment process in which materials are cooled suddenly. Now the question arises why materials become hard after this process. Any material which is heated up to its eutectic point or grain structure redefining point and from that point how much time is provided to it for cooling is the key to define the mechanical properties of any materials. In quenching the time period is very short which is reducing the crystal grain size of both metallic and plastic materials thus increasing the hardness.
