It clearly has an impact depending on the nature of the work, the range of freedom within the role, the physical and social environment and the overall culture of the workplace. the impact is as diverse as the emplyer and your colleagues.
Everyone has expectations and aspirations from work if these are not met then productivity is likely to be at a minimum acceptable with hygiene factors not being met.
The fact is if you can match people to a role they genuinely enjoy then at least your realconcerns can focus on the physical environment and the culture but the question is broad. Productivity and the environment are in someinstances governed by law(HAWSAW) through to JD's, relations with your boss, Company Code of Conduct and Culture and your own abilities and motivation...just toname a few

Workplace is important - air, desk, chair, colleaguess, boss, corporate culture, amount of sunlight, wallpaint, flowers.. they all play a role and can increase or decrease productivity.
Workplace enviroment makes various affects to employee's productivity. Employer must arrange workplace through HSE department. Worker have to know in advance in case he will do his job in hazardous enviroment. Otherwise productivity will fall down by some many reason as worker's health, adsence of additional bonuses for the job in hazardous enviroment etc.
Good environment like proper temperature, light, air, comfortable seating arrangement and other physical facilities like clean toilet, elevator, in house arrangement of tea/ coffe and clean canteen cetainly improve productivity positively.
Enviroment where employees are treated with huge respect and management reinforces and tangibly recognizes victories achieved, be it production, quality, innovative or safety minded, long has been the mark of companies that consistently over perform on all fronts, particularly, profitability is greatly increased as employees buy in. However, this must be a genuine effort and merely lip service.
Workplace enviornment is just like base of productivity. If employee doesn't feel confortable to the workplace environment his anxiety ,fatigue, tardiness, absentieesm will be increased and on the other hand quality of work and desire to learn skill will go down. Almost all organization focussed on improving workplace environment as its favours the productivity and reduces costs which in-turn gives higher profits to the organizations.
A full time employee usually spends 8 to 9 hours of his time at the workplace hence the environment definitely matters to him. So the impact occurs both sides.
Good work environment brings out better productivity and below par workplace environment ends up in low productivity. Organizations hence invest a lot on work environment. Surveys have shown that organisations ignoring workplace environment have suffered in employee satisfaction and productivity.
