Require information to secure home user system from such ransomware attack in advance.
These are some of the ways to prevent ransomware attack
1. Keep users informed on Security issues, example - users training, advise not to open email attachment from unknown sender or if they are not expecting them.
2. Deploy Endpoint Security solutions, for example, antivirus, antimalware, etc. and keep them up to date
3. Always install the latest OS Security updates and other patch all applications used by the company.
4. Segment the network, restrict/tighten security for network wired and wireless access for guest users, install Next Generation Firewall, tighter FW policy, tighten URL filtering and Web Application Filtering.
5. More can be done :) Cheers!
Defence-in-depth is required (Antivirus, Patch management, Policies and procedures etc.)
System and Application should be updated with latest update from vender
Patching should be done on timely manner
An Endpoint Solution which has Advanced Exploit Detection capabilities and Bot Net detection can be used to stop the attack in the initial phase. Crytoguard would to required to stop Ransomware Attacks.
Users Awareness is the first security layer to focus on. Being aware of downloading files from only trusted and known sources, is the first technique to fight not only this type of attacks, but also any other type of viruses.
Then, patching servers to close vulnerabilities which could allow such attacks to succeed. Updating workstations regularly is also a good approach to prevent such attacks from spreading over the network. Last, ensuring latest deployment of Antivirus signatures and performing regular IT Audits is a good practice to reduce such attacks.
I think user awareness comes in first place, application whitelisting also will help

To prevent the attacks in system level, first we need to educate the user’s by openings the Spam mails, unwanted add’s and link documents.
Enable the firewall and updates the security application like antivirus and Inter security frequently.
Install the IPS and IDS client application and patches in user systems.
Frequently Update the Signatures and Certificated in Security devices.
