What is the different between subcontractor and nominated subcontractor?

'Sub-Contractor' is a party appointed by the Main Contractor after negotiation.

'Nominated Sub-Contractor' is a party already selected by the Client and their names are included in the Tender document which are to be hired by the Main Contractor.  

A subcontractor who contracts with the main contractor to supply or fix any materials or goods or execute work forming part of the main contract. Essentially this contractor is employed by the main contractor. Nominated subcontractor ,A nominated sub-contractor is often appointed after the main contractor has started work, so one of the client benefits is that specialist design can continue after work has commenced on site.A prime cost sum is included within the main contractor's tender document (a bill of quantities or specification of work).

A nominated subcontractor is the one that is selected by the client to carry out an element of works.

Subcontractors are appointed by main contractors to carry out part of the work on their behalf

Nominated sub contractors appointed by Employer for specilized works. ex. firefighting

subcontractors appointed by Contractor to works on behalf of them

Nominated Subcontractor: Selected Subcontractor as per prefeed vendor list or noted from Client / Consultant for specific work to award the project. 

Subcontractor: Any one can estimate and apply the work as per project schedule after awarded.

Nominated subcontractors are the specialist of certain services such as, Fire Fighting, LPG etc who is approved by the local authority and is suggested by the consultant or the client for their particular project. The contractor can either go with these specified sub contractors or another with prior Confirmation from the consulatant and form an agreement to carry out the work.

Sub-contractors are appointed by main contractors to carry out part of the works on their behalf. As construction has become more complicated and more specialist construction techniques have been developed, it has become increasingly common for contractors to sub-contract others rather than employing a large workforce themselves.

The use of sub-contractors enables the main contractor to undertake more complex projects whilst not unacceptably increasing their risk, however, concerns have been expressed about the prevalence of sub-contractors because of a perception that the main contractor has less control over the skills and training of sub-contractor employees and so there may be a negative impact on quality and health and safety on site.

Nomination is the process by which the employer (client) nominates, selects or approves who will perform a subcontract or specialist trade role (nominated subcontractor). The nominated subcontractor then enters into a subcontract with the main contractor.

Subcontractor is the one who selected by the Main contractor or Main contractor through Engineers while Nominated Subcontractor is slected by the Client its self for carring work under the Main Contractor.

Nominated sub-contractors are the appointed or selected by the client itself to dealt with the main contractor. Whilst domestic sub-contractors are mainly proposal from the main contractor. however under under the approval of the client. 

A domestic sub-contractor is any sub-contractor, other than a nominated-sub contractor, that the main contractor sub-contracts to carry out part of the works. The work of the sub-contractor is the responsibility of the main contractor as far as the contract between the main contractor and the the client is concerned.
