ton boom crane has to unload ton machine off a truck and place it in designated location, what are the safety precautions and what are the hazards and risks associated with it ?
Some Hazards of crane lifting:
1. Equipment failure
2. Falling of load
3. Load hitting any plant facility
4. Crane tipping over
5. Crane hitting plant facilities
6. Unauthorized personnel entry
Control Measures:
1. Crane must be third party certified with valid inspection certificate.
2a. All lifting tackles must be third party certified and color coded with valid certificate avaialble.
2b. All lifting tackles must be visually checked before use for any damage.
2c. Correct lifting angle must be used for lifting 60 degree is the best lifting angle.
2d. Correct capacity of slings and shackles must be used for lifting as per weight and shape of the load.
3a. Check the swing radius of the crane and ensure that it is unobstructed by any facility. Ensure that crane is positioned correctly.
3b. Tag line must be used to control the load and avoid hitting any plant facility like pipelines, equipment.
3c. Do not lift load when wind speed exceeds 25 knots.
4a. Always follow load chart for lifting any load.
4b. ASLI (automatic Safe Load Indicator) must be operative and crane operator must not lift any load out of the load chart limit.
4c. Check wind speed and do not lift when wind speed is more than 25 knots
4d. Use wooden mats under the crane outriggers to distribute the load.
4e. Do not position the crane outriggers near any drain line other wise there is a chance of sinking of these outriggers resulting in crane tipping over.
5a. Trained banksmen must guide the crane when moving inside the plant. Two riggers must be assigned one guiding at the front other at the back.
5b. Crane positiioning must be checked via site visit and marked on plot plan of the plant to ensure that ground is stable for bearing crane weight.
6. Always provide barricades and proper signage to keep unauthorized personnel away from the lifting area.
use the correct lifting equipent and sling method calculate the wight of lifting and hoisting of load not to overload of crane ,check all lifting equipment, check area of lifting taking place and be certified to operate a crane having proper training and be licenced to operate nowing your slings and shackels
Safety precautions:
-check the maximum load of the crane to avoid overload
-check the ground where the crane is instaled to avoid rollover
- be sure that a banksman is in the area to avoid any incidents or damages
Hazard;
Crane topple, suspended load and drop, hit on to personnel and stucture.
Control measure;
Lifting plan, permit to work, equipment maintenance and checklist, competent crane operator, cordon off the lifting zone and correct rigging method, competent rigger and signal man, tag line to control the load.
The hazard are standing under a suspended load and bad signal to the crane operator. The control measure are avoid standing under a suspended load and good signals and good communication to the crane operator .
Please share more risk in lifting activities,i have got 2 risk such as personal inury or death and property damage
Hazards- Load, Lifting Equipments, crane, booms,
Control measurures- Crane must be certified, Operartor must be cerfiried, Lifting aceessories must be certified, Lifting area must be barricated, and clear, Rigger must be certified, and proper communication during lifting, load must be clarify before lift, permit to work must be approved by the concern authority, Safety signage must be posted at that location, groud level must be proper. Boom area must be clear for safe the electrical lines and cable lines, proper monitoring must be there,
operator and Crane,
Operator should be competent with license, 3rd party certification fro crane and crane accessories like sling.
Falling loads, if overweight, or due to unsecured materials.
Secure lifting permit prior commencing the activity, adequate supervision , follow safe working load.
