if 2D animation i prefer illustrator and Flash or AE.
And if 3D animation i do it using illustrator then i import the artwork into maya which is my preferred program for 3D animation then i do the animation works.
and i think this can be done with Max to but i didn't use max with illustrator files before but Maya have a good tool that brings AI file and convert it to curves
go to
Create >> Adobe(R) Illustrator(R) Object
then choose you AI file
You can extrude , model , apply your materials and add lights to the scene then render
Logo as it will have a static usage in the end, Logo's are meant to print...I ll have to finalize that phase first and then its easy to Re-Model in Max and Apply VFX in Aftereffects as phase 2...if you are looking to animate an existing logo then definitely you can use MAX to model and Afterefects to animate, probably export into flash for web use?
There are more simpler methods than Max, u can use SwichMax, it's some awesome software for generating animations, It also has many tutorials in the internet.
Thx,
model within any 3D application:3DS MAX or Maya or cinema4D ....
but you can animate the logo in AfterEffects (Video coplot 3D Elements)
