No I am not an expert, But a deep therapy is equired, this is a specialist condition.
The name, bipolar, paritally explains the condition. Bi, meaning two, polar, is like the oppoisite ends like the north pole and the south pole. Tow poles basically. That is what happens with your moods, they swing from depressed to elvated emotions. One moment the person might be very excited and active physically and mentally; the next moment they might experience a feeling of sadness and depression.
The exciting period is know as mania or hypomania, when they are happy, excited or even irritable and energetic. During the depressive state they might be sad, pessimistic. Many psychologist and psychiatrists still don't fully understand this condition. The cause is usually ascribed to either genetic or environmental factors. By genetic, we mean it might run in the family (inherited from parents or grandparents) and environmental, stemming from a traumatic experience such as lost of a loved one, going through a divorce, having been raped, etc.
The medical usually classify them as bipolor I and bipolar II, with the first being when you have hyper mood, without the depressive mood. Bipolar II is when hyper phase is followed by a depressive state. If the cause is due to drug used, it is classified differently.
It is usually treated with antipsychotic and mood stabilizing drugs combined with psychotherapy, although I think think that the drugs are not an effective way of treating it. One of the the main chemicals in the drug is lithium. Which has many bad side-effects on the patient. In some cases they apply electroconvulsive therepary (ECT) which is a very questionable treatment (also known as shock treatment). They try to shock the brain almost like to reboot the person.
In most cases, the patients are treated against their will and I believe the medical profession is looking for a short cut with drugs to treat the problem. Lazy to find real alternative research methods which could take lots of money away from the pharmacutical industry.
The medical world is still baffled by this condition, and they are just making it up as they go along. Some people are reintegrated back and some cases may receive treatment for yours, depending on the drugs which I feel just worsens the situation and create multiple side-affects which are just treated more drugs. This leading the pharmacutical companies benefiting whereas this money should be invested in research to understand the underlying causes of this condtion and find alternative a natural ways to treat this condition
