What are the biggest lessons you have learned in the corporate world?

Corporate world taught me many lessons the most important of which are connected to the “identity”.  In my first years, I mainly dealt with questions like “Who are you?”, “Where are you?”, “What is your exact place in this company/world?”. I may honestly say that it took me3 years to understand my position in that world, and even my identity being reshaped within my profession fully. When I realized that the identity of the individual needs to get united with the corporate body for a successful career, I tried to figure out the best way of union between the self and the company. How to become a family member, a team player, a representer of a company, and to preserve my unique self at the same time… I think it took me an extra2 years to answer this question. After5 years of experience, I began to realize that a two-sided contribution is possible. A work experience in a company can contribute to the improvement of both the self and the company. One could preserve and even improve the self with its unique qualities and use this self as a progressive force for the benefit of her/his company. I may say that during my career as a teacher I learned that in order to be a good team player, first, you need to be yourself, then, understand your role in the team, and embrace your partners. And all this could happen only in an environment which is open for improvement. This lit the fire for the second phase of my career as an educational leader. This phase gave me the chance to enlarge my point of view. I began to inquire the relationship between the individual and the corporate body and tried to figure out what is best for both the self and the company. What I work on nowadays is to combine two tasks: to create a system for my company which will survive independently of individuals while guiding my colleagues to fulfill themselves fully as a part of the corporate body. Is it difficult? No. It’s just a matter of learning. 

Smart and hard work with honesty makes a man perfect and ready/ equipped with answers to all or any kind of questions/ situations/ circumstances

1. Common sense is not a common practice.
2. Learn to say NO: Do not be a people-pleaser by saying yes to everything.
3. Do not burn your bridges. You never know when you will cross paths again.
4. Pick and choose your battles. Not every argument is worth winning.
5. People respect you if you deliver on your promises.
6. Follow up and follow through.
7. Document everything.
8. Listening is your best friend (GOD gave us two ears but only one mouth for a reason)
9. Be careful of your tone of voice when communicating things. People pay more attention to your tone of voice than your content.
10. Do not hide your ideas. Your idea could turn into even an bigger and better idea with more vetting and discussion.
11. Use tentative language, especially when you are not sure. For example, “it appears to be like” xyz instead of “it is” xyz.

Corporate world is much focused in financial results and a huge amount of politics envolved, sometimes is a challenge to keep the balance.

Everything is about timing .. you can do great work and miss the opportunity to use it because you missed the deadline .. a business decision can achive unbelievable growth in a moment and can be meaningless in few days .. It is all about timing

How to be focused at key tasks being surrounded with all distractions from other employees. A continuous urge to excel and grow. Being optimistic and learn from everybody

1- Do not fall in love with your manager in a way which prevents you to look forward for the next job or at least to know how good you are against your peers in the market. 2- Hold to your current job as long as the mutual interest and benefits between you and the organization is well balanced and maintained. 3- Comfort zone kills ... real life starts at the end of it ..... do not ever resort to the sweet relaxing center of your comfort zone!
