Where both parites are mature. Negotiation means you have to give up something in order to gain something. If both parties are not willing to comprimise then the  negotiation turns to a deadlock. This doesnt mean you must give up and walk out, if you really want something, then you need to put the time and effort in. Always think of what else you can offer, in order to get what you need from the negotiation. Everyone has a price, you just need to find out what it is...
