YES and NO

I look to this topic differently

NO because if you are good at what you do that's plenty enough to be knowin in the market.

YES because that will open new doors, information, knowladge and having more people to follow and communicate with.

So i'd say work hard, brand yourself and stand tall in the crowd

You may be asking, “Why should I brand myself and my product?”

Branding is a marketing technique that is capable of taking your business to great heights. It concerns helping your customers to form a clear association with you. When you link your business to a design, logo, slogan, and/or color, you will see some positive results.

Brands create a feeling of familiarity. If customers have seen your logo, insignia, or company name, they are more likely to continue to select your product or service. Also, by word of mouth your products and services will be referred to others. Recommendations from other people can be an extremely powerful way to advertise and it’s free.

A brand helps potential customers remember your business. People may know little about your philosophy or reputation, but if they can recognize your brand, the chances are greater that they will do business with you. Branding creates memory in the minds of the public and the public’s memory is so vast.

When the public remembers your brand and familiarizes themselves and others with it, they will come back. Customers are more likely to remain devoted to your business and are apt to buy more products and/or services from you based on the brand of their initial purchase with which they are pleased with.

People are willing to pay more for products or services that they highly regard. This means that customers are likely to pass up cheaper prices with competitors if your brand has made a positive impression on them. If clients believe in your product, they will feel comfortable paying for it. Something good is not too expensive. If something is bad, a penny is too much.

When you have distinguished your business through branding, the marketing has the capability of becoming so great, that little else is necessary. Developing your brand takes time and effort, but after it has been established, and after customers have had the chance to identify with it, your sales can increase naturally. You won’t have to spend as much time planning marketing strategies to attract the public if you have a distinguished brand.

Personal branding can be the most influential tool for success in your marketing toolkit. You can identify, package, and sell who you are to build a personal brand that results in business growth, influence, and income.

If you want a strong personal brand, you need these3 key ingredients in branding:

  1. Know your area of expertise, values, talents, and personal strengths. Understand how you connect best with people. Consider what your target audience needs and wants, and then identify the value and the experience that you can deliver to meet those necessities of your target market. Communicate in ways that reach into the hearts and minds of your target group and connect with their values and desires.
  2. The personal branding process is about having self-awareness of your strengths and talents, and then letting everyone know about your gifts, talents, and experience. It’s about giving a clear impression of who you are, what you value, what you’re committed to, and how you can be counted upon to act and provide. Your branding statement must provide a clear, concise view of your unique set of strengths and tell why you can do it better than anyone else. You need to be able to state clearly and unequivocally why you are different than everyone else, and what services you offer that make you unique and set you apart from your competition.
  3. Consistency is one of the keys to building a strong personal brand. Being consistent is the key to success in business. Be aware of being consistent in every interaction you have, both in what you say and how you respond. Customers come back because they want the same great service or product they received the previous time.

Establishing your profile and experience in the market through your work and interactions is what branding your own self is all about. A product that is well-branded will always remain in demand and be valued higher owing to the brand-power associated with it. This goes for prospective job-seekers and existing employees as well. For prospective job-seekers: It helps to get better CV visibility by getting the profile to stand out amongst other job-applicants. As a recognized expert in your domain, it becomes easier to establish credentials and probably bargain for better expectations when selected.

For existing employees: Branding yourself helps you to get noticed by your peers as somebody who can execute his/her tasks with efficiency. It leads to quicker progress in the organizational hierarchy when you consistently deliver and uphold the brand image that has been built. The most important detail to keep in mind when branding yourself is to be critical of your own performance and skills, while being realistic about the expectations you set from your own profile. This will only help you analyse your own skillset better, and brand yourself better.

I remember reading in a book about how strategic branding takes about five million dollars and at least a couple of years.  So I would say branding yourself will accordingly take persistence, star performance, adding value, and social connections.

Branding yourself keeps you current in your chosen field, opens doors for you, and creates a lasting impression on clients. By developing your own brand, you’ll have control over people’s  initial perception. If you don’t brand yourself, someone else will, and the outcome might not be in your favor.
