What about big data? I keep hearing that it’s the “new marketing currency”. Is this really the case ?

Big data is the equivalent to "Word on the street" about your brand, it's data mining and deep tracking to all the data found online, it's beyond social media, it includes forums (which has incredible amount of data), social media, blogs, and literally ever written word online.

How is it relevant to marketers? As you know trend tracking and consumer targeting is very important to businesses, it allows you to know what people are talking about and what they're looking for, It's not just a tool for marketers, it goes for everything else, whither it's political, religious or social, big data reveals what is going on locally and globally.
