  • Sharing information accurately and concisely and relevant to the task. 
  • Prioritise and deliver skillfully various task in the order of urgency and priority. 
  • Take time to know yourself and believe in yourself for confidence and courage to lead the way.  In this way people grow dynamically. 
  • They also learn with failure because without failing no success is born.

Make it possible for the person to learn and grow first then to stand up for themselves and be accountable individuals.  People in authority have to prove to others they can, staff look to the authority for positive actions.  To err is human.

First, I have to let them know that I acknowledge them in whatever good they do and politely correct them when they miss the directives. Most of these kind of Boss-Assistance relationships crumbles when the respect and acknowledgement don't go round between both parties.

However, knowing them and calling them by their names (as a way of empowering them), goes a long way to buy their loyalties for you. A loyal assistant can do anything to cover your loopholes. Again, we have to be there for them and stand in for them in times of their troubles.
