It has become obvious that the attendees of the meeting will not come to a jointly accepted conclusion. What is not an appropriate strategy for such a situation? A. Suspend this discussion and schedule another meeting B. Focus on interests, not positions C. Insist on objective criteria and standards D. Separate the people from the problem
Unfortunately most post mortem meetings tend to find a scape goat unless you have a very strong, fearless and efficient team leader who is prepared to go the extra mile to actually determine the root cause of failure rather than a scape goat. It is well understood that when the cause of failure is detected you are obviously able to identify the person / persons responsible for the failure. What is important, is to stand beside the person and to encourage him rather than than shun him because continuous success can only be achieved through team work and not individual brilliance. So while it is important to conduct post mortem meetings it should not be a platform for witch hunting.
