I do believe that, it was allowing for more sophisticated relationship between countries in terms of international business and peace process, but it any how assuming that this can improve industries aspects in general.

It is a very difficult question to answer, but i think in terms of society, maybe there are two answers:

1) since the society had some racism/"slavery" culture (maybe more than today) in the past, many people perhaps couldn't have this tecnology to themselves;

2) in other hand, as the car tecnology revolution with Ford, maybe more people were able to acquire knowledge in these technologies. 

The case is what we do with this revolution, how we can use it in our side (classes, information, global aide,...) and not use it against us (fakenews, cybernetic crimes,...) 

All disciplines can use this technology in a sort of ways which is impressive!!
