Every certification is a badge for a person same goes with SHRM. What I have learned from my experience these badges (certification) have significance but real work is your experience and what you have done. Certifications are the value-add to your profile. I am not discouraging you but this is how it goes.
HRMetrics is going good in Pakistan for the preparation but its expensive http://thehrmetrics.com/you can get details while contacting them.
you need this certificate because you are serving in many roles in HRM, like Talent Aquisition, succession planning and career growth, employees relations, training and development, day to day operations and ad-hoc tasks.
The certificate will help you in terms of knowledge and growth and self confidence also to be distinguished among your colleaugues and future careers.
This days its very desired to be certified in your field, as this will give a positive impact and image to your current and future employers.
The certificate will cover the gaps in your current knowledge and practices, it will help you to approach probelm solving and other responsibilities with more structured and effecient way.
Preparing for this starts from registering with one of the reputable institues in the place you live in, read alot about the subjects/moduls that you will be enrolled in.
Always seek advises from your instructer, and other senior audiences who are enrolled in this program, ask them for the issues you have, ideas, thoughts, the instructor will be a bank of information due to big number of stories and issues he heared/solved during his training life cycle.
Always read and dont stop after you get the certificate, read articles, books, register in forums, attend seminar, workshops, etc.
This is not the end of your career, its considered as a kick off training.
I belive, an HR leader must also understand how an organization's human resources impact on achieving strategic goals. For example, it's not good enough just to monitor metrics like absenteeism, turnover, and performance. You need to go beyond this – and figure out how to change the current metrics to meet the goals. This brings us into the realm of implementing strategy, with SHRM
Good Day,
From my experience ,SHRM well recognized because its competency based, you will apply what you learn ,Most of people certified find it relavant to their work and help them to utilize information gained .
But in my opinion any course/certificate you must apply what you have learned .
Thanks

Just to have a paper to let employer know that they have certification. Otherwise experience and knowledge is far more better than just a piece of paper.
