i would like to second the opinion of Mr. Sary regarding this topic.
My way to train new employees starting by explain the rules and policies of a company or organization. Then, show them what tools we used and how to use it. Finally, they need to know and explain to the customer any important information. For example, return period, fees, and so on.
After they got all thing that I mentioned above, I would show them how to handle any problem when they faced one.
I think the best way to improve the performance of an employee is in job training because each company has their rules and policies, and it has their issues. Online sources are good for some standard process. So it would help to save some time instead of teaching/train the employees.
First, i'd like training very much.

I do believe that it depends on specifying the actual employees training, but in anyhow we have to use all training types to develop and improve the employees performance, even attending In / Out courses, specialized sessions, on / off line courses, coaching, and job signed assessments as well.
I use Viber to question my teachers to prepare them for PD sessions or for post sessions to test their retention. I post questions in the group and encourage them to answer individually. I wish them on their answers and eventually forward their texts to the group.
