"Media" is plural of the word "Medium". Hence I am indoubt about the grammar of the sentence, I could be at mistake, but I think correct sentence should be like this: "Are social media surpassing "traditional" customer service?"

........OR........."Is social medium surpassing "traditional" customer service?"
