This is important to having knowledge about the products because sometimes customers want to know more about the product or sometimes they confused between two items so if we have knowledge then we can help them to tell the qualities and differences about products. That service makes for customer easier.

If you are in the sales industry the most important thing that you need to know is the product knowledge. Theres a time that the products is not good and you need to know what is the other good quality on it so that you have a good and bad knowledge about the product so its easy you to explain to the customers. As a sale engineer I should have above skills because I need to explain costumer about the product as simple as they can understand. 

As a Sales Engineer you should have a good knowledge about your products and how they work , after having this knowledge you need to learn how to communicate it effectivly. Gaining technical skills will help you to communicate this knowlege easily,smoothly and correctly. You might need technical skills to propose your products formaly and briefly and effciently to your manager or to present your product attractivly to the customer . You also need to follow the problem solving strategy to identify the exact problems then select a proper solution.  A good example of these problems could be lowering the costs , rising the profits, or reaching customer satisfaction..etc , or any other deep detailes issue.
