Every employee in his department perform his tasks and duties according to his/her JD and other tasks assigned by their managers, performance can be judge by their performance appraisal.
One should not compare ones tasks and responsibilities of other employee as everyone has his own responsbilities.

I am assuming that by classification you mean department. So, yes employees may be asked to perform in some other department however, it is not advisable since mostly it impacts negatively on the outcome thereby causes more harm than good, had the staff have not been asked to do the task.
