While many current online programs allow students to learn at their own pace, some project that future versions of online education might see an increase in student self-direction and self-motivation. Web-based simulation and webcasting techniques may allow students more freedom in dictating what and how they will learn. More use of student-managed personal learning environments and less direction from instructors is expected for future online education environments. As online programs and degrees become more widely accepted by hiring companies, experts project that more schools will participate in online education programs. A growing number of top colleges and universities may begin to offer a larger number of online courses and programs, according to a survey by Educause Quarterly, www.educause.edu. Some areas of study that are not now conducted online, or only partly online, may eventually be offered entirely over the Web.

Based on the pace with which distance learning is improving, I do strongly believe that online delivery of lessons (e-learning) is the future (if not the present) of education. And, regardless of the potential disadvantages, I do think that the advantages very much outweigh any potential setbacks.
