If you mean the editing process, usually the work horse is Avid Media Composer or Avid Symphony. It is known for stability and accuracy.

Apple Final Cut is also used.

If you mean compositing and effects, Autodesk solutions and Adobe After effects are the most powerfull and reliable.

Do not forget these are only tools. Your creativity is your most valuable asset :)

Professional Televisions (As far as I have found out) use Vizrt software with or integrated with other Adobe software such as Adobe Premiere and/or3D software such as3Ds Max or Maya.

The software mostly used in TV ads and broadcasts is Adobe After Effects and Final Cut for MAC systems since most of the animations and ads are always created using any program available depending on the company and the systems they use but it's been proven by98% of the CG world that the final touches are always made in1 of those programs I've indicated above and specially after effects since the movie like touches and coloring and sometimes animating are always done as final steps.

As a graphic designer I can tell you that any animation I create in Cinema4D (which I mostly use for3D) I always need to export it in after effects and finalize it there.

I hope that covers up all your question and was useful to some.

God bless you all

There are differents options but the most simple layer bassed is Adobe, i used Premiere  and After Effects. I bealive according  what is needed. The Apple entusiastic lovers will say final cut.

In animartion there are differents softwares,  if the option is3d rendeering then the common is Maya, Cinema4D. But  there are options depending of  technical requirements to broadcast.
