Hello,
As I`ve had the same experience already, my advice would be:
1. Have an informal discussion about what is going on for them (Are there problems with students in the class? Is something going on at home? Is the work too hard, too easy, not relevant, or uninteresting? What can you do to address the student’s concerns?). Try to find the reason behind slow learning.
2. Remember that as the adult in the situation it is up to us as teachers to look at what the student needs. It is our job to find a way to engage them.
3. Ask other teachers - find out what has worked with this student, either in other classes or in previous years.
Eventually finding the reason and right methods to engage the student would help to solve the problem.
When dealing with a student who is not serious about their studies or is a slow learner, it's important to approach the situation with patience and empathy. Here are some strategies:
Identify the Root Cause: Try to understand why the student is disengaged or struggling. It could be due to personal issues, lack of interest, or difficulty with the material.
Personalized Approach: Tailor your teaching methods to the student's learning style. Breaking down complex concepts into smaller, manageable parts can help them grasp the material better.
Encourage and Motivate: Positive reinforcement and setting achievable goals can boost their confidence. Celebrate small successes to keep them motivated.
Provide Extra Support: Offer additional help outside of regular class hours, such as tutoring sessions or study groups.
Involve Parents or Guardians: Keeping parents informed and involved can help reinforce the importance of education at home.
Create a Structured Learning Environment: A consistent routine and clear expectations can help the student focus and take their studies more seriously.
These strategies can help in addressing the challenges faced by slow learners and guide them toward academic improvement.
Firstly,
-That's one of the gifts of being human, when you be a teacher this is a gift from the God.
- Build good relationships with your students based on respect and trust.
- The teacher must create safe classroom atmosphere that is accessible to all students.
Secondly,
find the problem about the student who is not serious in study what he/she need ?
- you can ask him directly, what you want, dont be shy ? it is easy question
- make simple test to discover his/her intelligence because every one had at least two types of this intelligence as examples :
Listening intelligence,Writing intelligence, Sight intelligence ,Self intelligence, .... and so on.
From all that previous mensioned you can deal with slow learner student
