It provides the controls by which a user operates a machine system
it is is the space where interaction between humans and machines occurs. The goal of this interaction is effective operation and control of the machine on the user's end, and feedback from the machine, which aids the operator in making operational decisions
Dear for simple learning HMI i.e Human Machine Interface are the intermidiate between operator and PLC systems. It works as PLC gives you some result on screen and you gave some instructions/input to PLC.
I agree with all above answers; but for more clarification, HMI/MMI all are used with all kind of process controllers like PLC, DCS, SCADA. These are simply monitors/displays/lcds, more the clarifying image, more the operator understand.
It is simply the interface where the operator can control field equipment and seeing the status of those equipment and the measured variables with minimal need to take actions on the field and the PLC is the interconnection between HMI and field equipment
For clarity: Imagine you are working on a system which is controlling a process. The process has several sensors placed to measure its temperature, pressure and flow-rate. In order to read all those measurements you need a system which will take take those readings, interpret them into something readable and present it to you on a screen. That system is a man machine interface. Maybe that system will also enable you to switch on and off something in particular related to that process. Maybe for example a heater. This system gives you the power of Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (Popularly known as SCADA) and the screen through which you are reading and inputting commands is called a Human machine Interface HMI. (or Man Machine Interface)
The main brain
hmi is interface between humain and machine it help operator to know the information of process(steam or gaz turbine, electrical motos ,pumps...) or sensors or transmitter or valves and evry company of automation have hmi like foxboro or honneywell or siemens
Man Machine Interface is the Machine part where human interaction is used like switches, keypads screen. ex. HMI LCD as part of the PLC.
man machine interface is what with the help of which we can make changes in the plc parameter such as analog value input/output
