Short-form Editorials - short and don't require much time to read. Quick on-going communications such as a "tip of the day". Difference with postcard emails is that the focus of the message is editorial not promotional.
Newsletters – Longer version of Short-form Editorial. Newsletters helps brands/individuals build credibility and establish them as experts in their field
Postcard Email - short and to the point; visible in its entirety when viewed. They are promotional.
Catalogue Email - Longer than postcard emails and feature several products like a print catalogue.
Auto-responders - Messages triggered automatically, when the user completes a specific action.
Alert Emails - Similar to auto-responders but they're triggered on a particular event to which you want to draw attention to, i.e. auto respond when a product is available again.

Follow your customer : Keep a track of people in your list who have visited certain page by using retargeting cookies, and based on these information mail specific offers to them
Reduce Cart abandonment : Track people in your list who has added a product to their shopping cart but didnot complete the transaction, send them mail asking why, follow up asking them to complete the order, sweeten the deal by adding a offer or discount etc
Reward loyalty : Seperate all past buyers from the list and send them mail with similar or related products, add loyalty offers etc. Past happy customer are most likely to make purchase again if the right push is given.
Personalize Mails : Personalise mails as much as possible, if possible put on an form to collect information and wish them on their special occations like b'days etc
Giveaway Mail : Everyone likes a freebie, give something away which is useful to your target audience. Say a free template if you are a web design company etc
Mobile Ready : Always make your mails mobile ready, as approx.47% of mails are now opened in mobile browsers in US.
8 pm to midnight mail : The best open rate was8:00 p.m. to midnight, according to a study done by Experian
Weekend Mailer : Although not as effective as8 pm to midnight rule but still weekends open rate is better than any weekday
