In the world of project management, what does project METHODOLOGY mean ?

simply it means managing the project in a logical, organised way, following defined steps.

In my humble opinion, It is a very dificult describe what mean a project methodology and more in this dinamic and turbulent market. In project management terms a project methodologies is a business strategy allowing companies to maximize the project's value to the organization. With the feature that it can evolve and  "tweaked" to accommodate a company's changing focus or direction. A very complicated task with the assumption and constraints that the project has.

Adding to Ahmed Shareef, methodology is defined as a system which comprises the principles, practices and procedures which are applied to a specific branch of knowledge. Methodology refers to the way in which information is found or the way something is done. Methodology includes the methods, techniques and procedures which are used to collect and analyze information.

Project methodology indicates a sequence of defined process steps to be followed for successful execution of a project. Methodologies can be of different nature depending on the nature of the project. A six sigma project can have a methodology of DMAIC or DMADV. A lean project can have defined steps including VSM followed by multiple programs to make the process Lean.

Methodology is how you tackle the project, it's a certain set of steps that you take in a defined and robust staging that has been proven to work. Every major company adopts a known methodology or creates its own methodology. You will find so many in the market, and many claim it works, but you can never know until you try.

Project  methodology means a system of practices, techniques, procedures, and rules used by those who work in a project.

 Francisco Beltran  says it very well from added  value perspective since it reachs to singularities that can differentiate an organization. The rest of the answers are excellent testmonials of a pratical and operational experience. Sometimes happens that projects zig zag, for instance in my case I delivered a complaint management system in accordance to ISO9001/2008, but only now someone is doing CMMI... So project methodology for me is basically a checklist of things to do that add value to your project regardless of the order.
