Sure why not, if he has talent and he still has courage to learn and than mix his experience with knowledge he can easily do it

I think if some one has interest on learning new stuff and if experience makes (22 years is good experience) the person switch to new challenges and if some company can give him/her this chance to shine in different position yes why not.

I know many people who has changed their specialities and doing well in current job its all about how you can adopt to changes and accept new challenges

As a hiring part '' YES '' he will be able to choose the right people who are fitting in his expertise areas. And he can be a trainer and an advisor in particular and may be in general. Because he been there for long time and he knows well who can carry on or can not (somehow). But for other issues of HR it may needs a specialized person in HR relevant tasks.

HR is about working with  people.l thus see no good reason why this person cannot be competent in the said role, they have what it takes to dispense of their duties with little if any difficult.Nick's point of view.

I have a different opinion; if we look around we will find many people who are engaged in a profession for a long time but still don’t have the required competency. But what I believe is that if you have worked for12 to15 years in your profession and still you are not able to teach or train others, there is something wrong in you.

In my view pursuing in the same functional area will be more fruitful and enjoyable after having achieved such valuable expertise. Trainer or advisor related in similar area would be a wise option.

At the first thanks to Mr. amer jayyousi  for his perfect questions and i am with Mr. Mayez Kabbara

in my point of view some one have22 years experience in sales/marketing/and procurement i think he had a lot of skills like

1- interpesonal skills,

2- communications skills,

3- leadership skills,

4-presentation skills,

5- Management skills,

6- good way of thinking,

7-persuasion skills,

8- power of influence,

i think he can be an HR manager because sales/ marketing & HR manager the have common functions:-

- Sales and marketing work external with the firm customers

- HR work internal with the employees

" it's not a big deal "

but if we talk about Training; coaching and advising its talent not any one can be Trainer or advisor

then he need to have talent how to deliver the informations and how can we convert the information in books to knowledge in the work.

A big NO and big YES its all depend on professional and the organziation where he works. The MNCs have been rotating their experienced employee in to various functions and this gives them learning and similalry they could groom a team for future slots. As far as specific training role is concern then in HR we have other role also and one must need to learn those traits.

I have seen various training organiization asked such learned person to deliver a lecture or training sessions for junior professioanls. He could launch his career as trainer too or visiting faculty with academia.

With all due respect - an HR position is highly over rated. I am not saying that HR Manager or any HR position doesnt require a leve of knowledge of expertise. But come-on, lets be honest here, what does an HR Manager do, that you, or anyone, for that matter, cant do?

I have met a lot of people, people who have worked as an HR Manager or are currently one. Most of them havent accomplished a university degree or have another university degree (Hotel management, environmental science, and even sport education!) or even in one case, hasnt finished high school!

What I am trying to say is, yes, someone in the positions you just mentioned can fill an HR role easily.

I would just like to mention that I am talking about regular HR roles and not an HR role in prestigious companies in which HR positions require a tremendous amount of professionalism and character.

definitely. As what we already know, experience is thebest teacher. So a person with22 years of experience in this field would definitely has a lot to teach and advice. He wil succeed on training persons if he will be an affective teacher.
